Just a few months ago, Leo Grand’s life was terrible. Homeless since losing his job in 2011, he spent his days begging and nights sleeping on the streets of Manhattan’s West side. Then last summer, a young man made him a strange offer that changed his life.
24-year-old software engineer Patrick McConlogue, who had been seeing the 38-year-old homeless man for three years on his way to work every morning, asked Leo whether he would like $$100 to spend on anything he wished or learn how to code (编码).
Leo picked the latter. True to his word, Patrick returned the following day with a few books on the subject, a cheap but durable laptop computer and charging accessories, and most importantly, daily lessons every morning before McConlogue was due at his office. Leo turned out to be a fast learner. After a few months of strict learning how to code, the two men released Trees For Cars, a ride share app that Leo coded all by himself. The mobile app allows people to help the environment and save money by carpooling.

For the past week, many Chinese people have been very excited because they have witnessed another great achievement in China’s space program.
China’s manned spacecraft Shenzhou-11, which was launched on Oct 17 from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu, successfully docked (对接) with the Tiangong-2 space lab on Oct 19, reported Xinhua News Agency. The docking happened at 3:31 am. while the craft passed 393 kilometers over Southwest China.
“The pair were just above Chinese territory (领土) when the spacecraft had the meeting with the lab,” Sun Jun, deputy chief engineer of Beijing Aerospace Control Center, told Xinhua.
The Shenzhou-11 manned spacecraft is carrying two male astronauts, 50-year-old Jing Haipeng and 38-year-old Chen Dong. The mission is the third spaceflight for Jing, who is the commander of the two-man crew. And it is the first for Chen, who said that he is looking forward to experiencing things that are impossible on Earth, including weightlessness.
After the docking, they entered the space lab Tiangong-2. They will live in the space lab for a month to carry out different aerospace experiments.
Of the experiments, three were designed by Hong Kong middle school students and chosen in a science competition. The experiments include one that has taken silk worms into space. The silk worms were put in a small capsule, and their activities can be seen through the glass in the middle of the capsule. They are expected to spin and cocoon (结茧) in space.
Hong Kong students wanted to know if the silk produced in the space would be thicker and tougher, and whether this type of silk could be used to produce special suits like spacesuits.
And this mission shows China’s confidence in its space program. “Shenzhou-11 is a new beginning. It means that the early stage of China’s manned space program will soon be over,” Zhang Yulin, deputy commander-in-chief of China’s manned space program, told Xinhua.

New research shows that biological clock disorder is a growing health problem around the world. Time zone changes, inner body clock disorder and irregular food and exercise patterns can all result in a sleep debt.
As a saying goes, “The early bird catches the worm.” People who rise early feel happier and more satisfied with life overall, compared to night owls. But the good news for teenagers is that most people become earlier risers as they age, and this change is also associated with greater feelings of happiness.

The "morningness" was associated with greater happiness emotions in both age groups.
Morning types also tended to report that they felt healthier than the late risers, according to the study that published in the journal Emotion. The researchers said that this apparent health benefit could come from the extra sleep they would enjoy, as their sleep could not only make them feel more energetic, but may also improve their immune system. "Evening people may be more likely to suffer social jetlag(时差反应); this means that their biological clock is out of sync with the social clock," Ms Biss said. "Society's expectations are far more organized around a morning-type person's schedule." "An evening person may go through their week feeling unhappy because they have to get up earlier than they would like to."

Last Saturday, LiuWei, a senior two student of our school, helped an injured woman. On November 12 Liu Wei was on his way to taking part in the English speaking competition, when a woman fell off her bicycle carelessly. The woman struggled to get to her feet but failed, because her right leg was bleeding badly. Without any hesitation, Liu Wei came to her assistance.
