Nowadays more and more traditional businessmen feel worried that growing e-commerce will decrease their share of the market.
According to a survey, 90% of some people’s purchases are made on the computer. As they find that by being able to go shopping online and choose the things that they need, and have them delivered right to their doorsteps, they could no longer be bothered with driving, the crowds, the noise of that and they usually get a better selection. But sometimes they are cheated only to get the things they hate.
Cornell University Marketing Professor Edward McLaughlin says traditional stores can keep their customers by offering goods like clothing, which customers may want to see and try on before purchasing, as well as items that are difficult to transport. He says some traditional stores are also pleasing customers with services such as setting up or repairing computers and other electronic equipment.
Traditional stores also offer social experiences that some shoppers enjoy. There is still a lot of emotion in the buying decision that takes place. Oftentimes, you need that last sense of “this is exactly what I want” before you part with money. And you can’t always get that online. It’s a rather cold process.
As more and more people have Internet access and smart phones, online commerce is likely to continue its growth here in the United States and in other countries.
24. Traditional businessmen feel upset because_______.
A. growing online sales will seize their share of the market.
B. people like to have their good taken good care of
C. more and more young people purchases things on the computer
D. consumers can always get a better selection by shopping online
25. According to McLaughlin, some traditional stores are keeping customers by _______.
  A. giving customers electric toys as presents   B. making their goods better and cheaper
  C. delivering goods to each doorsteps    D. providing customers with extra services
26. From the fourth paragraph, we know that _______.
  A. online shoppers tend to be friendly to each other   B. the process of shopping online is full of emotion
  C. making buying decisions in traditional shops is difficult
D. some shoppers like the social environment in traditional stores.
27. What is the author’s attitude towards the future online commerce?
   A.Doubtful  B. Optimistic   C. Worried   D. Concerned

Windbreaks are barriers formed by trees and other plants. Farmers plant these barriers  around their fields, which help prevent the loss of soil and stop the wind from blowing soil away. They also keep the wind from damaging or destroying crops. Besides, extra trees and plants can be cut down and used or sold for wood.
Windbreaks can be highly valuable for protecting grain crops. For example, in parts of West Africa grain harvests were twenty percent higher in fields protected by windbreaks compared to fields without them.
But here is something interesting about windbreaks. They seem to work best when they allow some wind to pass through the barrier of trees or plants around the field. If not, then the movement of the air close to the ground will lift the soil. Then the soil will be blown away. For this reason, a windbreak works best if it contains only 60 to 80 percent of the trees and plants that would be needed to make a solid line. An easy rule to remember is that windbreaks can protect areas up to 10 times the height of the tallest trees in the windbreak.
There should be at least two lines in each windbreak. One line should be large trees. The second line, right next to it , can be shorter trees or other plants with leaves. Locally grown trees and plants are considered the best choices for windbreaks. Trees reduce the damaging effects of wind and rain. Their roots help protect soil from being washed away. And trees can provide animals outdoors with shade from the sun.
28. The advantages of building a windbreak are as follows EXCEPT_____________.
   A. keeping the wind from destroying grain crops.  B. increasing the production of grain harvests
   C. providing humans with shade from the sun   D. reducing the damaging effects of wind and rain
29. The author thinks windbreaks are interesting because______.
   A. the movement of air lifts the soil   B. windbreaks can stop the wind getting through
   C. large trees are lined with short ones   D. windbreaks allow some wind to pass through
30. If the trees grow to a height of 30 feet, the areas the windbreaks can protect are _______.
   A. 100 square feet   B. 300 square feet  C. 240square feet   D. 150 square feet
31. What can be inferred from the text?
   A. Extra trees and plants can be cut down for wood.   B. The environment is going from bad to worse
   C. Trees and plants from abroad are the best for windbreaks
D. Windbreaks can contribute to agriculture harvest.

It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible. Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the driver’s seat is another matter.
Road politeness is not only good manners, but good sense. It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarrelling and fighting. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behaviors of politeness are by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays don’t even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it.
However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous. Typical examples are the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraged old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to.
Unfortunately, modern drivers can’t even learn to drive, let alone master the road-man ship. Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give-and-take from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.
32. The passage mainly talks about__________.
A. modern drivers B. traffic jams     C. good manners   D. road politeness
33. Troubles on the road are often caused by _______.
A. the behaviors of the drivers  B. traffic jams   C. terrible road conditions  D. great speed
34. According to the writer, a good driver should _________.
 A. beat back when forced to face rude driving    B. join in traffic stream quickly however other people feel
 C. be able to recognize politeness when he sees it
D. encourage old ladies to cross the roads whenever they want to
35. It is not always right for drivers to __________.
  A. master road-man ship                B. encourage old ladies to cross the road
C. create atmosphere of good will         D. give a friendly nod to show politeness.

Imagine yourself in a small airplane 3,300meters above the ground. The engines roar in your ears as you move towards the open door. Then you’re outside, falling with the wind whipping past your ears. As the ground rushes up at you, you open your parachute(降落伞)。   36     All in all, you are in free fall for only 30 seconds ---the longest 30 seconds of your life.
37   However, a growing number of adventurers are taking the risk. Obviously skydiving isn’t something you can just try, like fishing or bowling. So , if you want to attempt the sport, you’ll need to go to ground school.
38    The course is taught by licensed skydiving instructors who have been jumping for years. They’ll teach you how to keep your body position stable. You’ll also learn to be constantly aware of your altitude and, most importantly, when to open your parachute.
Once you’re through with ground school, it’s time to get up in the air.    39   Two instructors always jump with the person, ready to pull the student’s parachute open if he or she freezes up.
40    It certainly seems dangerous when someone is falling at 50l/hr. But, if you believe the statistics, skydiving is actually safer than driving, with one fatality(死亡) occurring in approximately 60,000jumpers. Moreover , most enthusiasts agree all fear stops the second your feet leave the plane, and when you land, the only thought in your mind is, “Wow! I want to do that again!”
A. However, a new jumper never jumps alone.
B. It takes years to forget the taste of fear from skydiving.
C. No doubt, you’re thinking skydiving is a dangerous sport.
D. It explodes over your head, pulling you back and upwards.
E. For most of us, skydiving is something we only see in the movies.
F. Ground school is where you learn to jump, without leaving the ground.
G. Skydiving is the sport of jumping out of an airplane and falling freely through the air.

Writing :
Care about the old
The number of the elderly living alone has increased incredibly fast in recent years, with the percentage near 50 percent of all. Reasons include population migration, decrease of multi-generational families, the development of cities and parents’ preference for freedom.
As a result, some social problems have arisen such as loneliness, lack of care and the difficulties of living. So it is our responsibility to care about the old in terms of their physical health and feelings. We should go home and visit them as often as possible besides phoning. In addition, do try to keep them company whenever possible.
All in all, it’s high time that we took the responsibility to show our concern for the elderly and make their life enjoyable.
