Last week, BBC Travel reader Sumayya Seedat asked for advice on her upcoming
vacation in Andalucia, requesting “tips for a self drive with three kids through southern
Spain for the month of October, touring Seville, Granada and Malaga.” Our Facebook fans
offered up some useful suggestions:
From HW Roos: "Be aware with any rent-a-car company. If you use them, take
pictures and write down all damage there is on a car, and let them sign the paperwork (in
triplicate).”
From I:,maa Khan: "We did southern Spain in March-Malaga, Granada, Cordoba, Nerja
etc. You will have a wonderful time. The highways are excellent, well-maintained and well-
marked but make sure you check out your route beforehand, including the nearest sites for
parking. There will be a little confusion between toll and non-toll highways. It happened to us
three times as we missed the exits. Use Google maps or get a GPS (it's extra when you rent a
car). We got maps from our hotels and they worked well, Enjoy, have fun."
From Laura Collins; "A perfect time of a year to visit southern Spain. Plan a few days
in the Alpujarras mountains south of Granada-beautiful white villages and lots of great
hiking. You can drive to Trevelez, the highest village in Spain."
From David Farrell: 's Be careful of toll passes, there are many and can be costly and
confusing at first. Maybe budget for them a little. However, the freeways are good and
the directions are simple from city to city. Once in the city be sure to check your parking is
in a correct parking zone. Often hotels offer free parking. If not, ask in advance about the
parking requirements, Some cities offer free parking at night. I am sure your hotel will
know the times, Most of all, enjoy."
21. What advice was given if the traveler drives a rent car through southern Spain?
A. Take pictures of all damage on the road when accidents happen.
B. Make sure to check out the nearest sites for parking in a hotel.
C. Check all damage on the car and sign the paperwork with the rent-a-car company.
D. Budget more money for the long journey in case accidents happen.
22. How can the traveler avoid missing the exits while traveling in southern Spain?
A. Ask the policemen for advice.

second man in history toretain(保持)the 5,OOOm and lO,OOOm titles.
Farah consolidated his place as one of Britain's greatest athletes with his double
success four years ago, but repeating the feat (功绩,本领) makes him the world's most

The Somalia-born Londoner is a nine-time global champion, moving him above Ethio-
pian great Kenenisa Bekele, after his second victory in Rio's Olympic Stadium.
He also matched the feat of Finland's Lasse Viren, who completed the long-distance

Farah had already achieved the World Championships 'double double', successfully
defending his l0,000m and 5,000m titles in Beijing last year.
Despite being the pre-race favourite, Farah insisted winning the l0,000m in Rio would
be tougher than in London.
Ethiopians Dejen Gebremeske and Hagos Gebrhiwet took turns to set a quick pace in
the first half of the race. Farah moved to the front shortly after the 3,000m mark, taking
control of the pace before accelerating to hold on in the final straight.
Farah finished 0. 6secs clear of American Paul Kipkemoi Chelimo, who finished second
before being disqualified.

bronze.

It has been argued that women's maternal instinct (母性的本能) makes it harder for
them to find a balance between their home and work lives. Other commentators (评论者)
say cultural and institutional barriers prevent female's success. But according to a Iateist
best-seller, all these arguments miss something more basic: women's lack of confidence.
The book, titled The Confidence Code : The Science and Art of Self-Assurance, is
co-authored by distinguished women journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. Success
depends as much on confidence as competence, according to Kay and Shipman, and there is
"a vast confidence gap that separates the sexes".
In two decades of covering American politics as journalists, Kay and Shipman have
interviewed some of the most influential women in the country. In their jobs and lives,
they walk among women anyone would assume to be filled with confidence. And yet their
experience suggests many of these women are full of self-doubt.
Even Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg told the writers: "There are still days I wake up
feeling like acheat, not sure I should be where I am. "
In a feature story in The Atlantic, Kay and Shipman say that conversations like this
inspired them to write the book. After considerable research. they found that, 'compared
with men, women don't consider themselves as ready for a promotion until they meet 100
percent of the requirements; and they generally underestimate not only their abilities but
also their performance.
The writers point out that a lack of confidence is behind a number of familiar female
habits. For example, many women have the tendency to take the blame when things go
wrong, while crediting other people for their successes.
In short, because women think they're less competent than they really are, they're
also less self-confident than they should be. It's a vicious(恶性的) circle.
32. What encouraged Kay and Shipman to write their book?
A. The conversations with many influential women.
B. A large number of familiar male habits.
C. The vast confidence gap between sexes.
D. Women's absence from the top positions.
33. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word "competent"?
A. confidence. B. capable. C.important. D. successful.
34. When do women consider themselves ready for a promotion, according to Kay and Shipman?
A. When they satisfy 100 percent of the requirements.
B. After they take the blame for their wrong deeds.
C. When they have done something successfully.
D. When they have as much confidence as men.
35. Which is the best title of the passage?
A, Self-confidence Prevents Woman's Success
B. Women Aren't Ready for a Promotion
C. Self-doubt Harms Women
D.The Art of Success
